Day 6: Maceys Adventure

For the seventh day of our Spectacular Summer Finale, Aimee and I rode our bikes to Maceys. (Now before you start thinking that we are some amazingly strong, and totally fit athletes who ride their bikes all over town, let me explain that we took the river trail there the whole way, so it really wasn't very hard.)

Well, on the way there, I was having a really hard time keeping up with Aimee, because she is amazingly strong, and super fit, and I'm a lazy couch potato that doesn't ever do anything. So yea, it was pretty hard for me on the way there. (But that really doesn't have anything to do with anything, so I don't know why I told you it. Oh well.)

Anyway, we get there, and we chained our bikes up. And guess what!? There was actually a bike rack this time! Woohoo! So yup, here is a picture of our beautifully locked up bikes. Just in case you wanted to see what we ride!

The first thing that Aimee and I always do once we get somewhere - especially when we ride our bikes - is go get a drink, and go to the bathroom. But we don't actually use the bathroom, mostly I just check out my face, to see how tomatoish it is. Well, this bathroom was pretty spectacular. We have never seen anything like it before. It is just plain magical!! It is all AUTOMATIC!!!

After our trip to the amazingly magical bathroom, we went and bought ourselves some ice cream. And just a shout out for ya, Macey's has some of the best ice cream ever!! We both bought smalls, which were only 50 cents, (no tax!!) and they give you a lot of ice cream! So yea, if you are ever in the mood for inexpensive, good ice cream, and a lot of it, then definitely go to Macey's!

So, we then walked around Macey's eating our ice cream and looking at random things, and random people. We finally finished our ice cream, so we set off to accomplish our next task. (Well, we didn't leave Macey's, but we did walk over to the freezer section.) 

We are huge Harry Potter geeks, so of course we had to make the famous Ron and Lavender heart that Lavender makes on the window of the train. And if you don't know what I am talking about, then drop what you are doing right now and go watch Harry Potter!! So, we tried making it on the normal frozen section doors, but it just wasn't working, because they had two panes of glass, so the camera couldn't see it from the other side. It just wasn't working. So we found another glass door, (the one on the soda compartment thing) and it finally worked! But there were too many things in the background, that you still couldn't see it very well through the camera. So we tried holding up things behind it, to make it more visible, but it just didn't work. I had Aimee holding up coke packages, and even a package of raw meat, which she described as smelling "SO BAD!". So we finally realized that we needed a white background. The ceiling. Yep, it finally worked. And this is the final product. (We got some weird comments from this old man passing us while we were trying to get a picture of our masterpiece, but I don't remember what he said, so yea. But it was weird.)

So we then went to get our blood pressure taken - just like we do every time we go to Macey's. Mine was actually pretty low this time, but Aimee's was quite the opposite. But the only reason was because she was nervous, and I wasn't. So yea. She was upset about that for the rest of the day.

We then found a little station towards the front of the store that had a bazillion Air Heads in it that were 7 for $1. We decided, what the heck, why not? So we bought them. And on the way home we would stop periodically and split one in half to eat. And they were good. Yep yep. So the sad thing is, that I was going to go home and take a picture of all the wrappers, but I apparently left them lying around, so my mom threw them away. Sad day, I know. So you are just going to have to picture the amazing seven Air Heads each of a different flavor. Because they were good.

We also saw a lot of people we know at Macey's. But I'd rather not talk about that. Because it just reminded us of how we have to go back to school in about a week. Very sad day!! Now excuse me while I go cry in the corner for a while. *Tear Tear*

So Anyway . . . trips to Macey's always turn out to be amazing adventures, each a little different then the next, each just as amazing as the first!

Day 5: Doctor Who

This was definitely one of the more boring days of our Spectacular Summer Finale, and it is completely my fault!

I was in a very grumpy mood, and I was wearing my lazy, don't mess with me clothes, which means that I definitely couldn't leave the house. So Aimee was forced to come to mine. I'm an awful person, I know.

Well, I am obsessed with a British TV show called Doctor Who. It is really confusing at times, but I really love it. So one thing you should know about me, is that when I am obsessed with something, I try and make other people like it to. For example, I begged my mom to read the Hunger Games, and after a year, she finally read it. I have also been trying to get my younger brother Bryce to read Harry Potter, and he finally started reading it this past month. So, a lot of the time when Aimee comes over, we watch Doctor Who. (That is my attempt to try and make her like it.) But I think my attempt has failed. I don't think she enjoys watching Doctor Who, but just puts up with it to make me happy.

So yea, that is what we did all Friday. Watched Doctor Who. And then afterwards, we watched YouTube Videos of old Disney Channel Songs. Yep, that's how boring of a person I am.

Go ahead and blame me for this very boring blog post, and for the horrible day that I made Aimee endure. Aimee has to plan Day 6's adventure, so there will be a better story to tell tomorrow.

So Anyway . . . I'm boring when I'm grumpy.

Day 4: Family Day

The fourth day of our Spectacular Summer Finale, just so happened to be a Thursday, which is my dads day off. And it was the last Thursday of the summer that we would all be home, so it was made a Family Day. But don't worry, I still got a little adventure in with Aimee.

I was woken up at 9:20 to get ready to go - which by the way is way earlier then I normally get up. My whole family got dressed in our BYU clothing, and we set off. There was a BYU football open scrimmage that morning, so - because I am such a big BYU football fan - we decided to go watch for a while.

I made my mom bring her camera, because I wanted pictures that I could put on my blog. So I have her camera case around my shoulder, and I am walking into the stadium, when my mom points out a sign that says 'No Photography or Videos'. Umm . . . oops! The car was too far away to hurry and put the camera back in the car, so I just wound up the straps around the camera case, and held it in my hand, trying to hide it as much as possible. So yea, sorry, but I didn't get any pictures of this day.

They could not have picked a hotter day to do this scrimmage. It was boiling hot!! And we weren't allowed to bring our own water in, so we were getting dehydrated as well. Also, they had about an hour and a half long practice before they even started the scrimmage. So we were practically done with the whole thing by the time the scrimmage started. So we stayed to see each team make a touchdown and then we were just too exhausted so we left. But it was exciting while it lasted.

Once we were home, I drank a whole bottle of water - yes that's how hot it was - and slept for an hour and a half.

We then went out to dunch (that is dinner and lunch, or at least that is what we call it in my family) to Chuck-A-Rama. I don't know why we keep going there, because nobody really likes it. All of their food is dry and pretty flavorless. Well, except for their cinnamon pull-a-parts. Those are super good! And they have milk, and I love milk. But besides those two things, it really isn't very good at all.

Afterwards, we went to Trafalga, to play some mini golf. Well, pretty much everyone in my family stinks at miniature golf, except for my mom and dad. And it is always a competition between them. So they always keep score, and are always trying to beat each other. And the rest of us kids, are just trying to get it in the whole. And me, well, I'm known in my family for my swing. I might as well just say 'fore' before I hit the ball each time, because that is pretty much how far it goes. It's a miracle I haven't broken anything yet.

So yea, that was pretty much it for my Family Day.

And from what I hear, Aimee had a pretty interesting day as well. Her older sister Maddie got her wisdom teeth taken out that day. So she was obviously on drugs, but was trying to reassure everyone that she was completely normal. So yea, I heard some pretty hilarious stories about Aimee's day.

Well, later that evening, Aimee and I went on a walk down on the river trail by our house. It is one of our favorite walking and talking spots. Or at least until the spiders and snakes decided to take it from us. EWW!!!! But this time, we just sat on the grass and talked. Always a great pass time.

Afterwards, we went to my house for a while. We just sat on the porch and ate ice cream. Okay, so I more like forced Aimee to eat ice cream, but same difference. We were only out there for about 15 minutes, but we each got five mosquito bites. So needless to say, we were scratching ourselves like crazy, and wiping every inch of our skin that was showing, so as to drive away the mosquito's. But it didn't really work.

So Anyway . . . Day 4 was not the best, but it was still adventurous.

Day 3: Pretzels and HSM

The third day of our Spectacular Summer Finale, Aimee and I decided to do something at home, but it was definitely just as fun as our other two adventures.

We hadn't made our 'oh so famous' homemade pretzels in a while, and we were kinda craving them, so we decided that we would slave over the hot stove and create a yummy snack for us to enjoy. Normally the recipe takes us about 3 hours to complete. But this time, it went by a lot faster - or at least it seemed like it did. (Maybe it was just because we were having so much fun! Because times flies when you are having fun, right?)

So yea . . . we made the pretzels. Not much to say about that part.

There are two times in the process of making the pretzels where we have to let the dough rise. The first time for 40 minutes, and the second time for 20 minutes. So we decided to entertain ourselves during that time by watching High School Musical 2 with Aimee's sister Grace. (That is what HSM stands for. High School Musical. And if you didn't already know that, then you either had one crappy childhood or you are old!) And boy, oh boy was that fun!! We all knew almost all the words to all the songs, and of course we had to sing along! Yep, you just can't get any better than High School Musical!

So after we had let the dough rise, I was standing in the middle of the walkway between the counter and wall, and all of a sudden I hear a very soft whisper in my ear, 'excuse me'. Needless to say, I jumped about a mile high, screamed my head off, and in doing so scared the crap out of Aimee who was boiling the pretzels, who also screamed. And Aimee's mom started laughing her head off! Yep, it was pretty frightening, but it was also pretty darn hilarious! And it added to our list of amazing summer memories! Woohoo!

The boiling process is most of the time where things can go wrong. You see, picking up the pretzels and placing them in the water can be a bit tricky! And over half of the time, they come apart, and we have to try to recreate them after they are done boiling. So some of our pretzels turn out to have pretty fancy designs!  Like for example this one:

After we finished making our spectacular pretzels, (and they did taste pretty amazing thank you very much!) we ate them of course! But we also finished watching High School Musical 2.

There is this one song called Humuhumunukunukuapuaa. It is about a fish, and it is pretty hilarious! In the movie, Sharpay's background singers and dancers also known as the Sharpette's, make fishy faces. Well, Aimee and I tried to make our own fishy faces, and for some reason Aimee thought that mine was hilarious, and she laughed every time I did it. But I am so not going to post a picture on here, because that would just be embarrassing! So you are just going to have to picture me doing it. Here is what you do: Suck in your cheeks to make a fishy lips, cross your eyes, put your hands on either side of your face to make fins, and flap them back and forth, and then wave your head to make it look like you are swimming. And TADA!! You are now officially a fish!

So Anyway . . . it's really not possible to have a dull day when Aimee and I are together!

Day 2: Photo Scavenger Hunt at Walmart

It is the second day of our Spectacular Summer Finale, and Aimee and I had another adventure worthy of the amazing title.

After much debate, and questioning, we finally decided that we would ride our bikes to Walmart (which by the way is about 3 1/2 miles away from my house) and do a photo scavenger hunt. So we printed off a list of crazy things to find, prepared our bikes, and set off. It wasn't that long of a bike ride, but the last little portion was uphill, so that was pretty challenging for my lazy legs.

So we got there and we couldn't find the bike rack. Just our luck! So we ended up locking our bikes to this random pole attached to the building. First thing we go the bathroom and get a drink, and as predicted, my face was as red as a tomato, and Aimee's was tan and beautiful. Figures, right? After a while, I just gave up on trying to return my face to it's natural pale color, and had to deal with all the weird looks I got as I walked through Walmart.

Then we started working on our scavenger hunt list. Here is all the pictures that we took and a description of what we had to find.

1. Get a picture of something that will represent your teams mascot. (Woohoo, Rocking Mickey!)

2. Get a picture of a food item that no one in your group has ever eaten. (Haha, coffee!)

3. Get a picture of something that fits this description, "Most people buy this approximately once a month" (We went for the less obvious)

4.Get a picture of a food item that everyone in our group has eaten in the last month. (I don't know who or what she is looking at.)

5. Get a picture of everyone in your group staging a battle scene. (So, there were only two people in our 'team' and one of them had to take the picture, so this was as close as we were going to get.)  

6. Get a picture of a defective product. (There is a big whole in the box. Also, she was being a bum and not looking at the camera or smiling. Although it is better then when she was hiding her face completely!) 

7. Get a picture of a book everyone has read. (Please ignore the creepy face.)

 8. Get a picture of everyone in the group wearing the same article of clothing. (Why is everything cuter on Aimee?)

9. Get a picture of something that fits this description, " Most people use this daily." (Hahahaha I would sure hope so!) 

10. Get a picture of something odd but strangely fitting. (Haha, get it, Green Lantern and a green lantern! Haha, we are so funny!) 

11. Get a picture of your entire group sitting on the same piece of furniture. (So you can't really see it, but we are kinda both sitting on a chair, and Aimee is trying to hide behind me.) 

 12. Get a picture of three things that fit this description, "This can be used to lose weight." (Treadmill, tennis racket, 10 lb weight.)

13. Find a toy that the majority of your group had as a child. (We had to use the Barbie in a dress because Aimee apparently never had a ballerina Barbie.) 

14. Get a picture of a price check station after having scanned a clearance item. (It was a light switch cover thing and it was gold, and it was only $1!!) 

15. Get a picture of the most expensive piece of jewelry in the store. (So there isn't anyone in the picture, because I had to hurry and take the picture of the watch - which was behind glass - before anyone saw us) 

16. Find a food item everyone in the group doesn't like. (Tuna. Eww! And as Aimee pointed out, I had a pretty revolting face! Hahahahaha! I know she meant that I looked revolted. But I still think it's pretty hilarious! ) 

17. Get a picture of something that meets this description, "It used to swim in water, now it doesn't." (Aimee wouldn't hold a bag of shrimp or fish, so we just had to have her point at the seafood sign. Except that she isn't actually pointing!)

18. Get a picture of something that fits this description, "It smells good when it burns." (I know, I look really stupid when I am pretending to smell the candle!) 

19. Get a picture of a DVD that everyone has seen and not liked. (So this proved to be a lot harder then we had thought it wold be, so even though Aimee doesn't remember this movie, we used it anyway.)

 20. Get a picture of something that fits this description. "A tool that has multiple uses." (You can't really see it, but I'm holding a hammer!)

21. Get a picture of something that would only be used outside. (We are perfectly aware that you could technically ride a bike inside, but these were HUGE, so we decided that it wouldn't fit inside. And it was pretty hilarious, because almost right after we took this picture, the red bike in the back fell off the rack. Aimee didn't do it of course, but it was still pretty funny!)

After our scavenger hunt, both of us were super tired, and our legs hurt really bad. So we went over to McDonald's and got some fries and a drink to share. So were were sitting there, watching the people walk in and out of Walmart, and talking of course, when all of a sudden, we saw someone we knew!! It was Aimee's mom and older sister Maddie. So of course we do the obvious and shout out there names, but of course they don't hear because there is a layer of glass between us, and a lot of noisy people. So what do we do next, well we bang on the glass of course! Once again, they still don't notice. So, I run out of McDonald's, and out into the entrance of Walmart shouting Maddie's name. (And now that I think about it, I don't know why I went running out, Aimee should have gone, it was her family! Oh well!) Well, a lot of people looked at me, but of course, not Maddie. It is then that I notice that Aimee had followed me, leaving our food, and my camera in McDonald's. So, I hurry and run back inside, and back to our table, ignoring the weird comments I get from the employee, and the looks I get from other customers. After Aimee successfully scares her family, she comes running back in. And when I see her face, I start laughing, and root beer comes out my nose. (Because I am just cool like that!!) 

So, by then we had been at Walmart for almost 3 hours, so we finally decide to head home. And let me just tell you, the ride back was so much easier, and a lot more fun - because a lot of it was downhill! At one point, we got to a point where we had to turn, and so I looked over my shoulder to see if there were any cars coming. And it turns out that there was one right behind us! I got kinda scared to see a car that close, so I swerved to the right to avoid the car, and started riding across a large pile of rocks. It was not comfortable, but it was pretty funny!

Also, there was a point where we had to make a really sharp turn to get onto the sidewalk. Well, I tried to make the turn very smoothly, and well, that didn't really happen. There are a lot of potholes, and big bumps in the way, and I happened to hit a big bump. Well, my bike decided that it couldn't make it over the bump, but wanted to fall instead. So I kinda stumbled over the bike, and got some scrapes on my legs. But I am totally fine! And it was pretty hilarious! 

So Anyway . . . Day 2 was a huge success and many funny memories were made! 

Our Spectacular Summer Finale Day 1: Yogurtland

There are only two full of weeks left of summer. Where on earth has it gone? Why did it have to pass by so quickly?

So far, I haven't done anything productive with my summer vacation. I have done practically nothing but sit around on my butt and eat junk food while I watch TV, or hang out with Aimee. But even then, we still just sit there and ask each other: What do you want to do? And we can never come up with anything. So needless to say, my summer vacation has been pretty boring.

But I am determined to make these last two weeks ones to remember. Aimee and I will do something crazy, adventurous, awesome, exciting, and fun every single day for the rest of our summer vacation. (Except for Sundays of course.)

Well, yesterday was Day 1 of our Spectacular Summer Finale. And our first adventure was to finally go to Yogurtland. We have heard some pretty great feedback about this new frozen yogurt place, so we decided that since all of our previous frozen yogurt hangouts had closed, we would give this new one a try.

      

So I didn't have my camera with me, so this isn't my or Aimee's frozen yogurt creation. Ours actually had a lot more chocolate and a lot less fruit. But oh well, I wanted to use a picture.

And it was good, really good, but  I wouldn't say that it is any better then any other frozen yogurt place out there. In fact I thought that Earth Fruits had more variety of toppings. And although Yogurtland had a lot more flavors of yogurt, there were a lot that just weren't very good. *cough cough* Pistachio.But overall, I liked Yogurtland, and I will definitely go back.

So anyway . . . I would say that the first day of our Spectacular Summer Finale was a success.

A Not So Fried Egg

One of the summer goals that my best friend Aimee and I had this year was to be able to fry an egg on the sidewalk.

On our way over to her house yesterday, she was walking barefoot, and the scorching pavement burned her feet. We took that as a clue that it was finally hot enough to fulfill our goal.

Before we started we decided to check in Aimee's Daring Book for Girls - which happened to have a chapter about frying eggs on the sidewalk - to make sure we were doing everything right. (Don't worry we were) Oh and guess what, we had even thought of using aluminum foil before the book suggested it! But anyway, the book wasn't super optimistic about how our egg would turn out. It practically flat out told us that it wouldn't work. But, being the crazy, adventurous girls that we are, we thought that we would give it a shot anyway.

Well, we go out and set the aluminum foil on the street near the curb, and place the egg on top of it (not yet cracked). Which come to think of it was probably a really stupid thing to do, seeing as the egg could have very easily been taken or squished. But, thank goodness, it survived. Well, we went back inside, giving the foil about twenty minutes to warm up. It didn't. At all. After twenty minutes, it was only slightly warm. Bummer, right?

However, we decided to crack the egg onto the foil anyway. Hey, we had to at least try, didn't we? Well, we went back inside and let the egg sit there for about two hours. We would check on it periodically of course, just to make sure that it was still there, and to see if anything miraculous had happened yet. Of course, it hadn't.

Eventually it was almost time for me to go home, so we went out to check on our 'frying' egg one last time. To our surprise, the very edges of the clear part of the egg were slightly white. We obviously got very excited at this new transformation. I decided to poke the top of the yoke just to see if it was still gooey. It wasn't. It was hard, and gross. So, to our dismay, we had to give up on it and throw it away. :( Sad day, I know.

So Anyway . . . my dreams of eating an egg that was fried on the sidewalk are now crushed. *sigh*
